Hi There

I'm Kaylene. I love God, and I love people.

As a girl I daydreamed about falling in love, getting married, having a family, and all that good stuff. (Yes, I was the girl who owned a bride dress-up kit by the age of six). But as I grew, this daydream turned into an interest, which turned into a passion for studying relationships.

After getting my Master's degree in Family Science, becoming a Family Life Educator, and a few years teaching at the university level, I discovered the joy in passing along what I had learned about the nature of interpersonal relationships to others who wanted to expand their relationship "tool kit" the same way I did.

This blog has come to be the gathering place of various bits of wisdom I have gathered though my professional studies, personal interest, and lived experience.

Through it all, I am reminded of one central truth: marriage is sacred, and is a mirror of Christ's love for us. By learning more about it, not only are we investing in our own relationships - we are learning more about how God wants to relate to us, too.

This is the divine reflection.

“Why does he make light of things while we’re in the middle of a disagreement? Does he not know how much this matters to me?” I used to wonder.

Has this thought ever occurred to you?

It certainly has to me. More than once.

And every time, it was the same. I was in emotion...

For too long the Proverbs 31 woman has stood as a barrier to genuine femininity. It's been a way to measure a woman's worth based on her productivity, or her abilities as a homemaker and housewife. It's been used as a measuring stick to shame women who just can't measu...

Intimacy. It’s the heart of marriage, and is arguably the very purpose for why God created this divine reflection in the first place - it’s a clue that perhaps our desire for closeness mirrors God’s desire as well.

And to be perfectly honest, intimacy in marriage is a n...

Many people say that the first year of marriage is one of the hardest seasons of a couple’s life together. Looking back on my own marriage, I would agree.

It wasn't all bad by any means, but there were certainly some challenges that I thought I was well prepared f...

How often do you pray for your husband? Or future husband? I’m sure it’s something you do with some degree of regularity, to which I would say “Way to to! You're already winning at this wife thing!"

But how often do you stop to think about HOW you pray for your husband?

It’s a very simple trick, which is nice because most of the time, relationships are anything BUT simple, (am I right?!) So let’s dive in! This strategy is great to use any time you need to double check what someone means, what someone’s intentions are, or how you hav...

One of the most common pieces of marriage advice passed around at bridal showers, engagement parties, and other social gatherings is to make time to do fun things with your spouse. Specifically, to continue to date your spouse, even after you're married.

Now before we...

When I was writing last week’s post about Giving Your (Sex) Life To God, I was thinking a lot about what it means to embrace your sexuality in a way that is godly, and uplifting to your spouse.

While sifting through these thoughts, I kept coming back to the question: ...

Too many women, especially women who grew up in the church, have received mixed messages (or perhaps even overtly negative messages) about their sexuality.

During our first 2 years together, my husband and I found ourselves having the same conversation over and over.  And it always ended with us (okay, usually me) in tears and both of us reassuring one another that we really did love each other.

The problem was that we w...
